Arktis Vern - Bukta
Together for the ocean
On June 15th, 2025, Telegrafbukta in Tromsø was filled with energy, curiosity, and community spirit as we hosted Arktis Vern – Bukta Open Day together with Nofima, RISSA City Science. We had Akvaplan-Niva, NIVA, EcoFang, UiT, NIBIO, the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue, Tromsø Museum and many more dedicated partners.
The event was part of a larger effort to address one of Northern Norway’s pressing environmental challenges: the overpopulation of sea urchins and the resulting loss of kelp forests, which are vital for biodiversity, coastal protection, and natural carbon storage. Through interactive stands, live diving demonstrations, science communication, taste experiences, and children’s activities, we engaged families, youth, and the wider public in understanding how research, innovation, and collaboration can restore the ocean’s balance.
The day was a success, not only in raising awareness, but also in showing the power of working together across science, business, and the local community. Marine Spark X extend a thank you to everyone who joined us, contributed, and shared in this important mission. 🌱✨
